As the Inpatient and Outpatient Healthcare Quality Systems Development and Program Support Contractor, HSAG supports activities under the Medicare Promoting Interoperability Program, including providing technical support and feedback to assist hospitals with demonstrating meaningful use of certified electronic health record technology (CEHRT). In 2011, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) established the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs to encourage eligible clinicians, eligible hospitals, and critical access hospitals (CAHs) to adopt, implement, upgrade, and demonstrate meaningful use of CEHRT.
The program is currently known as the Medicare Promoting Interoperability Program for eligible hospitals and CAHs. The hospital quality of care information gathered through the program is available to consumers on the Care Compare website.
